Wisdom tooth inflammation, called pericoronitis, is a common condition that can cause intense pain, swelling, and difficulty opening the mouth.

WHEN IT IS AN EMERGENCY

Pericoronitis presents with:

  • pain in the posterior area
  • difficulty opening the mouth
  • pain while chewing
  • possible bad breath or unpleasant taste

In some cases, facial swelling may also occur.

WHAT WE DO IMMEDIATELY

During the emergency visit, we intervene with:

  • immediate clinical assessment
  • cleaning and irrigation of the inflamed area
  • possible extraction
  • disinfection of the area
  • targeted pharmacological therapy (if necessary)
RESULT
  • pain reduction
  • swelling reduction
